Save Over £300 When You Install a New Boiler

There are a whole host of reasons why modern boilers are more efficient, but their main advantage is that they are all condensing boilers. All well-maintained boilers burn fuel efficiently however, they inevitably lose some heat in the hot gases that escape up the flue. But, a condensing boiler has a larger heat exchanger so it recovers more heat, sends cooler gases up the flue and is overall, the more efficient option.

Sometimes the flue gases get so cool that the water vapour in the gas condenses out (hence the name) and even more energy is recovered from the condensing vapour.

So if your boiler is getting old or breaking down regularly, it could be time to consider having a new one installed. But, even if your current boiler is still working, it could save you over £300 if you were to upgrade to a new energy efficient boiler in your home, making it an attractive investment even if your boiler is still working.

Choosing The Right Type of Boiler

If you’re unsure of what type of boiler is right for your home – not to worry as we can conduct a free survey of your home and find that out for you. However, there are a few things to consider when it comes to replacing your boiler that can help reduce your fuel bills.

Fuel Types

Luckily, we are experts at carrying out boiler replacements (and boiler services) of all fuel types for our customers in and around Cambridge and we can identify the best type of boiler for your home.

If you have mains gas, a gas boiler is likely to be the cheapest heating option for your home. According to the Energy Saving Trust, on average, fuel prices show gas to be the cheapest heating fuel per kWh in comparison to oil, Economy 7, LPG and house coal (accurate as of April 2018).

However, if you don’t have a gas supply to your home, it might be worth considering carbon heating such as a heat pump or biomass, renewable heat incentives that may be cheaper for you overall. Alternatively, you may want to get a gas connection to your home.

Boiler Types

Most old gas and oil boilers are regular boilers that have a separate hot water cylinder to store hot water, rather than providing it directly from the boiler. But, when you replace your boiler, you can buy a new regular boiler and keep your hot water cylinder or buy a combi boiler that doesn’t need a cylinder.

A regular boiler is more efficient than a combi boiler at producing hot water in the first place, however, some of the heat is lost from the hot water cylinder, so a combi boiler may be more efficient overall.

What boiler is best for your home depends on a number of different factors including your water usage, space in your home and in some cases, compatibility with solar water heating.

Larger families are likely to use lots of hot water and may be better off with a regular boiler in comparison to smaller households that are likely to use less hot water, that might be better of with a combi boiler. Also, if space is limited in your home, combi boilers may be ideal as they do not require hot water cylinders and require less space in your home as a result.

If you’re thinking of installing solar water heating, it’s worth noting that many combi boilers are not compatible with this heating system or cannot use it so effectively.
